HEALTHCARE SYSTEM IN TURMOIL 2

In the recent past, many countries, including the U.S., have taken measures to improve

their healthcare systems and the consumer experience for better service delivery. Studies show,

however, that thirty percent of Americans are not satisfied with the prevailing healthcare systems

in their country. The need for changes in the healthcare setup is beyond the political level, as

sixty percent of those from political affiliations agree to change the medical care system to a

perfect overhaul. The healthcare system is currently in turmoil based on challenges facing the

sector in different countries, as discussed.

Substandard accommodation of patients’ needs pose a problem in the healthcare system.

Researches indicate that for effective medical treatment of chronic disorders, there should be a

condition across public health system settings and the types of service providers. Clinical officers

should collaborate and patients to jointly establish care strategies with targets, implementation

steps, and agreed-upon goals. Developed goals should aim at supporting patient self-

management and encompassing regular doctor check-ups, both electronically and through face-

to-face means. Recent studies reveal issues facing the chronically ill, with about four of every

five respondents disclosing difficulties in obtaining medical management. Categorically, 71. 5

percent had experienced difficulty in achieving medical care from a primary care clinician, 75

percent from contributors of drug therapy, and 78.5 percent from a medical specialist (Falcettoni

& Niggards, 2021).

The healthcare system has been affected with physician and nursing shortage. It is a big

concern facing the healthcare sector. The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC)

published data postulating that the U.S. might experience a shortfall of a range between 54,100

to 139,000 specialty and primary physicians by 2030 as the need increases. The annual analysis

indicates that the U.S. will face a significant shortage of physicians in the future (Hubel, 2019).

AAMC reports that the problem of having enough medical caregivers to serve American society

may worsen as there is an ever-increasing population in the country.

Among the many issues facing the U.S. healthcare system is Opioid abuse. The National

Institute on Drug Abuse reports that over a hundred people in the U.S. die daily from cases

related to opioid overdose. Opioid abuse includes prescribed heroin, fentanyl, painkillers, and

other synthetic opioids. According to studies, the crisis has economically cost the U.S.

government about $78.5 billion yearly (Gasoyan, Tajeu, Halpern & Sarwer, 2019). The Opioid

issue began late in the 1990s, as nurses knew not much of the addictive side effects of prescribed

opioid painkillers, and their prescription rates increased.

Currently, the American crisis on the quality healthcare system is well recognized. It is

evident that today in America, the guarantee for a person to receive high-quality health care is a

problem.

Slow adoption of Information technology has contributed to inefficiency in the health

sector. Information technology aims to bring about tremendous transformations in countries’

healthcare systems, with the Internet taking a role in bringing significant changes. The

computerization of administrative, clinical, and financial transactions has promoted healthcare

systems by improving efficiency, preventing errors, enhancing consumer confidence, and

improving quality. Services in Health care are not well delivered should it compared to the

degree by which the revolution has transformed almost every aspect of society. It is high time for

healthcare systems to embrace technology by storing their clinical information in an organized

data form, for patients to have e-mail access to their caregivers, and establishing patient reminder

systems to benefit patients with decision aids.

Poor Amenable Mortality Rates is an issue in the healthcare system. Amenable mortality

measures premature deaths that can be treatable, preventable, and avoidable, should timely and

effective healthcare prevail. Higher ratings suggest fewer deaths due to higher standards of

access and care. Medical care systems should ensure a good supply of healthcare professionals,

the effectiveness of healthcare services, and the general quality of medical care in the healthcare

sector to maintain a pleasant amenable mortality rate.

Among the benefits of National Health Insurance is that lit provides comprehensive

health insurance policies with various coverage features. Individuals get covered under any of

the following: family floater plans, group plans, senior citizen plans, and individual plans as

provided by national health insurance. The institution offers several health insurance products at

affordable prices to its members as people can purchase policies on a family or an individual

floater basis. The national health insurance scheme provides members with social security

coverage, lifetime renewability, tax benefits, less premium, online renewal of policies, and

optional covers.

National health insurance links with threats to the extent that a national health insurance

scheme does not consider preventative and primary services as a way of minimizing health

insurance costs over the long term can result in a significant burden of financial frustrations.

(Lee, Jang & Chee, 2018). A well-managed and sustainable national health insurance system

should work collaboratively with the health sector to put great emphasis on preventive and

primary services in place.
